Diffusers
Overview
Spirax Sarco diffusers create a safer and quieter discharge to atmosphere, helping sites manage noise and high-velocity release around blowdown and drainage points. They are designed for installation on the outlet of steam traps, air vents and direct blowdown valves where uncontrolled discharge would otherwise be noisy, abrupt or erosive. By reducing sound pressure levels by up to 80% at one metre and cushioning the discharge stream, they help protect both people and outlet hardware. That makes them especially useful where condensate or steam is released to atmosphere during normal operation, testing or maintenance procedures. In practical terms, they help turn an otherwise harsh release point into a more manageable part of the wider steam system.
Related outlet-protection routes
Diffusers are usually the final piece of a wider release arrangement. If the main upstream requirement is controlled blowdown or pressure reduction, compare blowdown valves. Where the outlet belongs to steam-trap discharge or vent hardware, continue into steam traps and air vents.
Continue your discharge point selection
Diffusers are usually added at the end of a wider discharge arrangement rather than selected as isolated accessories.
See the wider discharge support range
Return to the wider pipeline ancillaries range when discharge noise control is part of a broader venting, drainage or line protection project.
Coordinate pressure release with noise control
Use depressurisation valves when the main requirement is controlled blowdown or pressure release before the diffuser outlet is considered.
Match diffuser use to trap selection
Compare steam traps when the diffuser is being added at a trap discharge point and trap duty still needs to be selected or standardised.
