Steam injectors
Overview
Steam injectors heat feedwater by direct steam injection, mixing steam and incoming water inside the injector before the heated water is discharged into the tank. This direct-contact approach helps maintain high feedwater temperature, promotes agitation and supports the release of dissolved gases in atmospheric deaerator duties. Compared with indirect heating arrangements, it can avoid temperature stratification, separate condensate drainage issues and unnecessary secondary steam discharge from external heaters. Steam injectors are therefore often used where users want a simpler way to keep feedtanks hot and ready for continuous boiler feedwater demand. They remain part of the wider feedwater treatment strategy, so downstream chemical deaeration may still be required where application conditions demand it. This makes them relevant for boiler houses that want direct tank heating without adding a more complex external heat exchanger arrangement.
Related feedwater heating routes
Steam injection is usually part of a wider deaeration and recovery design. Build the surrounding package with deaerators when the tank arrangement is still being chosen, and compare boiler blowdown heat recovery systems when flash steam or hot blowdown value should also be reclaimed.
If hotter returned condensate affects how the tank is supplied, continue into condensate recovery systems.
Continue your feedwater heating selection
Steam injectors are usually selected as part of the wider feedwater and heat recovery arrangement rather than as isolated components.
Build the wider feedtank package
Go to feedtanks when the core decision is the wider atmospheric deaerator and storage arrangement around the steam injector.
Combine steam injection with heat recovery
Use heat recovery systems when the project also includes reclaiming flash steam or hot blowdown energy before the feedwater enters the tank.
Connect feedtank heating with condensate return
Review condensate recovery systems when hotter returned condensate and pumping arrangement also affect how the feedtank is heated and supplied.
