Spirax Sarco LC1350 is an on/off level controller for conductive liquids in boilers, tanks and vessels, with two configurable high/low alarm channels, LP10-4 conductivity-probe input and relay control for a pump or solenoid.
LC1350 on/off level controller for conductive liquids
Spirax Sarco LC1350 is an on/off level controller for conductive liquids in boilers, tanks and vessels. It responds to a change in probe conductivity and energises or de-energises relay outputs to operate a pump or solenoid, or to signal an alarm. Two alarm channels are available, and each channel can be configured as a high or low alarm. This makes LC1350 a practical choice for boiler water level control and tank level control arrangements that need defined pump switching and separate high- or low-level alarm actions.
The controller is intended to work as part of a complete level-control installation. The probe arrangement, pump or solenoid, alarm circuits, boiler protection, wiring and enclosure must be selected for the actual plant and applicable local requirements. LC1350 does not replace independent low-water limiting equipment or the external circuitry required for a complete boiler safety system. The official technical information also states that LC1350 is not self-monitoring.
Conductivity-based switching and alarm control
LC1350 uses a conductivity probe input to determine whether the sensed circuit is open or closed. With an LP10-4 conductivity level probe, the documented minimum switching conductivity is 1 µS/cm at 25 °C. The input is driven by an AC-pulsed signal. A single conductivity probe can provide a high or low alarm input, while two conductivity probes can provide pump on/off control. The exact probe positions and alarm consequences must be established from the vessel, boiler and approved system design.
For a typical feedwater arrangement, the controller can start and stop a pump between the selected level points while the alarm channels monitor separate high- or low-level conditions. The LC1350 installation guide shows an LP10-4 arrangement with pump-on, pump-off, high-alarm and low-alarm points. It also shows alternatives using two low alarms for pumping in or two high alarms for pumping out. These diagrams describe connection and operating examples; they do not remove the need to assess the complete installation.
Configurable response for practical plant conditions
Changing level in a vessel can be turbulent, especially around a pump start or stop point. LC1350 provides selectable input delay values of 0, 2, 4, 8 or 16 seconds to increase damping where the process needs it. The guide also specifies a fixed two-second filter from wet to dry on all inputs. Delay settings should be chosen during commissioning with the actual probe position, vessel response and control consequences in mind. Filtering can reduce unnecessary switching, but it cannot compensate for unsuitable probe placement or an unstable process.
The controller includes an alarm and pump interaction function that can be switched on or off. The guide describes this as a safety feature for probe or wiring failure conditions and notes that a high alarm and a low alarm must be configured to use the function fully. Commissioning parameters are protected by a passcode to reduce the risk of unintended changes. Commissioning is carried out from the front panel, and entering commissioning mode changes the normal control behavior, so the work must be performed by qualified personnel with the plant in a safe condition.
Operator interface and communication
A three-digit LCD and five-button front panel provide local status indication and commissioning access. The run display indicates an alarm condition and whether the pump is operating. Moving segments show whether the level is rising while pumping in or falling while pumping out; a static segment indicates that the pump is off or that the level is not changing in the selected control arrangement. The AL button can test the alarm relay and external circuits, while the OK button is used to enter commissioning and move through parameters.
LC1350 can communicate over an infrared link with adjacent compatible Spirax Sarco boiler-house controllers. It is defined as an IR slave only, with no local IR role adjustment. The documented interface uses the IrDA physical layer at 38,400 baud, with a 10 cm range and a 15-degree working angle. The infrared path must remain unobstructed, and adjacent equipment must be arranged within the documented communication geometry.
Applications and installation boundary
Typical applications include feedwater control for steam boilers, water level control in tanks and vessels, and conductive-liquid arrangements where a pump or solenoid must be switched from probe status. For a panel-mounted on/off arrangement that needs two configurable alarm channels, Spirax Sarco LC1350 combines the sensing input and relay logic in one controller. It can be mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail, a chassis plate or a panel cut-out, but the installation guide requires the product to be installed vertically. The display should remain readable, and the infrared beam between adjacent products must not be covered.
The complete controller must be protected from impact and environmental contamination. The minimum installation enclosure requirement is IP54 to EN 60529 or an applicable UL50/NEMA enclosure type; additional protection is required for conductive dust or wet conditions. The documented IP65 and NEMA Type 4 hose-down rating applies to the front panel only. LC1350 must not be installed outdoors without additional weather protection, and the sealed enclosure must not be opened because it has no replaceable parts or internal switches.
For steam-boiler service, the installation guide requires two independent low-water limiting systems, with each probe connected to an independent controller. A high-water alarm may be part of the level control or may be a separate system where required. The controller, probe and relay outputs are only parts of the safety function; external wiring, relays, alarm indicators, boiler isolation logic, water treatment and regular functional testing remain part of the complete design.
Selection checks before ordering
Confirm the liquid and sensing method. Verify that the liquid is conductive enough for the selected probe arrangement. With LP10-4, the documented minimum switching conductivity is 1 µS/cm at 25 °C.
Define the control arrangement. Establish whether one probe will provide a high or low alarm, or whether two probes will be used for pump on/off control. Confirm whether the process pumps in or pumps out.
Define the alarm philosophy. Set the required high- and low-level actions, relay consequences, external warning circuits and any independent boiler shutdown requirements before commissioning.
Check the enclosure and mounting. Select DIN rail, chassis or panel mounting, reserve the documented cut-out and fixing dimensions, provide the required cooling clearance, and keep the unit vertical and indoors unless additional protection is designed.
Check wiring and protection. Plan the supplied terminal connectors, screened high-temperature probe cable, 3 A overcurrent protection, disconnecting device, functional earth and separation of hazardous live and extra-low-voltage circuits in accordance with the installation guide and local codes.
Confirm the operating environment. Check the 110-240 Vac, 50/60 Hz supply, 7.5 W maximum consumption, 0-55 °C ambient range, altitude and enclosure requirements against the actual control panel.
Engineering value in a complete level-control system
LC1350 combines conductivity-based switching, two configurable alarm channels, local indication, test access and relay outputs in a compact controller. Its value comes from using those functions together: the probe arrangement establishes the level state, the relay outputs operate the pump or alarm circuits, the display exposes the operating condition, and the configurable delay helps match the response to a turbulent vessel. The infrared slave interface can also pass parameters within a compatible Spirax Sarco controller arrangement.
Correct application remains more important than selecting the controller in isolation. Before purchase and installation, verify the liquid conductivity, probe and protection-tube arrangement, alarm consequences, pump or solenoid characteristics, enclosure, wiring, local rules and independent safety functions. When those points are confirmed, selecting Spirax Sarco LC1350 provides a documented on/off level-control platform for conductive-liquid boiler, tank and vessel applications. The level controls category provides wider controller and probe context, while the boiler controls and systems range places this controller in the broader plant architecture.

1. Safety information
Safe operation of LC1350 is guaranteed only when it is properly installed, commissioned, used and maintained by qualified personnel in accordance with this guide. General installation and safety requirements for plant construction, tools and protective equipment also apply.
Intended use and system limits
Check that the product is suitable for the intended fluid and application. Check material suitability, pressure, temperature and their maximum and minimum values. If a product limit is lower than the system limit, or if malfunction could cause dangerous overpressure or overtemperature, include a suitable safety device.
Determine the correct installation situation and direction of fluid flow where applicable. Spirax Sarco products are not intended to withstand external stresses induced by the connected system; the installer must assess and minimise those stresses.
Competent personnel and standards
All work must be carried out or supervised by a suitably competent person. Installation and operating personnel must be trained in the correct use of LC1350. Follow any formal permit-to-work system and provide a responsible person and assistant where required.
In the UK, observe IEE Regulations (BS 7671, EN 12953, EN 12952 and EN 50156) and applicable boiler guidance. Elsewhere, follow the relevant local regulations. All wiring materials and methods must comply with applicable EN and IEC standards.
Steam-boiler level control and limiting
Steam boilers require two independent low-water limiting systems. Level probes must be installed in separate protection tubes or chambers with sufficient clearance between probe tips and earth. Each probe must be connected to an independent controller, and the low-alarm relays must isolate the boiler heat supply as required by the approved system design.
A high-water alarm may be part of the level control or a separate system. Where an independent high-water alarm is required, its relays must isolate both feedwater and boiler heat. All boiler water limiters require regular functional testing. LC1350 is not self-monitoring and is only one part of the complete safety system; additional wiring, relays and alarm indicators are required.
Electromagnetic compatibility
LC1350 complies with the stated Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU requirements and is suitable for Class A environments such as industrial locations. The product or its wiring may be affected by nearby radio transmitters, mobile radios or excessive electrical noise on the mains supply.
Where mains noise is likely, consider an AC power-line protector that can provide filtering, suppression, surge and spike protection. The installation guide identifies the stated Low Voltage Directive requirements and EN 61010-1:2010.
Access and the surrounding system
Provide safe access and a guarded working platform where needed, with adequate lighting for detailed work and suitable lifting equipment where required. Consider explosion risk, lack of oxygen, dangerous gases, extreme temperatures, hot surfaces, fire, noise and moving machinery around the installation.
Consider the effect of proposed work on the complete system. Isolation of valves, vents, protective devices, controls or alarms may create hazards. Operate isolation valves gradually to avoid system shock.
Pressure, temperature and personal protection
Isolate and safely vent all pressure to atmosphere before work. Consider double isolation and locking or labelling closed valves. Never assume that a system is depressurised because a pressure gauge reads zero. Allow the temperature to normalise after isolation to avoid burns.
Assess the need for protective clothing against chemicals, high or low temperature, radiation, noise, falling objects and eye or face hazards. Products that are not self-draining require protection from frost where freezing conditions are possible.
ESD, handling, disposal and returns
Observe electrostatic discharge precautions at all times. Do not touch or handle ESD-sensitive circuits without suitable protection. Assess manual-handling risks and use an appropriate handling method for the task, load and environment.
On disposal, follow local and national regulations. The product is recyclable unless otherwise stated. When returning equipment, provide written information about contamination residues or mechanical damage that could create a health, safety or environmental risk, including relevant safety data sheets.
Symbols and electrical functions
Double or reinforced insulation protects the equipment throughout.
Functional earth enables correct operation; it is not used as protective electrical earth.
Clean earth and safety earth identify their respective grounding functions.
Electric-shock and general-danger symbols require the accompanying documentation to be followed.
An optically isolated current source or sink identifies the isolated current circuit.
The ESD symbol identifies a circuit that must not be touched without static precautions.
ac identifies alternating current.

2.2 Viewing parameters and errors
In run mode, use the scroll button to view and step through the selected parameters. Each parameter remains visible for two minutes unless the button is pressed again. If an error occurs, an error menu is displayed after the parameter screens.
Holding the OK button for three seconds can clear a message and re-energise the alarm relay or relays. If the cause has not been corrected, the error reappears. A latched alarm relay remains de-energised until the correct reset or commissioning authorization is entered. If more than one error has occurred, the next message appears in priority order after the previous message is cleared.
2.3 Delivery, handling and storage
Each product is tested, calibrated and inspected before shipment. Inspect the carton on delivery, record visible damage on the carrier's delivery slip, and unpack the contents carefully. Notify Spirax Sarco and the carrier immediately if an item is damaged or missing.
Before installation, store LC1350 at 0-65 °C (32°F to 149°F) and 10% to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing. Before connecting the power, ensure there is no condensation inside the unit.
Provide operators with an alternative operating instruction that does not disclose the commissioning passcode. The alarm reset passcode may be disclosed only where the responsible system designer considers this necessary.
3. System overview
3.1 Function
LC1350 controls the water level of a boiler, tank or vessel by operating a pump or solenoid. It reacts to a change in probe conductivity, treats the probe circuit as open or closed, and energises or de-energises a relay. This action switches a pump or sounds an alarm.

Two alarm outputs.
Single-probe high or low alarm input.
Two-probe pump on/off input.
3.2 Other features
Selectable additional delay for damping turbulent conditions.
Passcode protection for commissioning parameters.
Infrared communication with adjacent compatible Spirax Sarco boiler-house controllers.
IR slave role only.
Optional external test switch arrangement.
The probes may be installed in external chambers if boiler mounting is not possible. The system arrangement must maintain the required independent low-water protection and the spacing and earthing conditions specified for the complete installation.
4. Mechanical installation
Read the safety information before installing LC1350. Install the product in a suitable industrial control panel or fireproof enclosure to provide impact and environmental protection. A minimum of IP54 to EN 60529 or Type 3, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, 6P or 13 to UL50/NEMA 250 is required. Additional protection is required in conductive dust or wet conditions.
During installation or maintenance, protect the rear of the product from environmental pollutants entering the enclosure, or perform the work in a dry, clean environment. Install the product only in the vertical orientation. Do not cover or obstruct the infrared beam between products. Ensure that the display is easy for the operator to read, and keep the control-panel or enclosure door closed except during installation or maintenance.
4.1 DIN-rail installation
LC1350 is supplied with a clip and self-tapping screws for a 35 mm DIN rail. Two sets of rear holes provide two height positions, and the clip can be adjusted to provide further positions.
Locate the clip on one set of rear holes.
Secure the clip with the two screws supplied.
Locate the spring clip fully onto the 35 mm rail.
Warning: Use only the screws supplied with the product.
4.2 Chassis-plate installation
Drill the chassis plate according to the dimensions in Figure 3.
Fit the unit to the chassis plate and secure it with two screws, nuts and washers using the slots at the top and bottom of the case.
Warning: Do not drill the product case or use self-tapping screws for chassis-plate installation.
4.3 Panel cut-out installation
The minimum panel thickness is 1 mm when the bezel is used. The product has integral M4 x 0.7 threaded inserts at the top and bottom of the front panel. Two M4 x 25 mm screws, fibre washers and a bezel are supplied.
Cut the panel and drill the fixing holes to the dimensions in Figure 3.
Remove the backing from the supplied gasket and apply it to the front face of the product.
Fit the bezel to the outside of the panel if required.
Fit the unit from the rear of the panel and secure it with the supplied screws, washers and bezel where used.
Tighten the M4 screws to 1.0-1.2 N m.
Warning: Do not use screws longer than 25 mm because of the danger of electric shock. Keep a minimum gap of 15 mm between units for cooling.
5. Electrical installation
Read the safety information before installing the wiring.
Warning: Isolate the mains supply before touching wiring terminals because they may be connected to hazardous voltages. Use only connectors supplied with the product or replacement connectors obtained from Spirax Sarco. Ensure that there is no condensation inside the unit before installing and connecting the power. Incorrect mains connection can damage the product and compromise safety.
5.1 General wiring notes
Maintenance personnel must be suitably qualified to work on equipment with hazardous live voltages.
Install the product exactly as specified; safety may be compromised by incorrect installation.
The building installation provides overcurrent protection and primary isolation for the product.
Provide 3 A overcurrent protection in all phase conductors. If both supply wires are protected, operation of one protective device must also operate the other.
Fit a 3 A quick-blow overcurrent protection device to the relay circuit or circuits.
Supply relay contacts from the same phase as the mains supply.
LC1350 is an installation category III product.
Install wiring in accordance with IEC 60364, EN 50156, BS 6739 or the local equivalent, and the applicable NEC or CEC code for US and Canadian markets. NEC Class 1 wire must have a temperature rating greater than 75 °C.
Connect cable screens as shown in the diagrams to meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
All external circuits must meet and maintain double or reinforced insulation requirements.
Secure conductors so that a loose wire cannot touch accessible parts or create a hazardous-live condition.
Include a nearby, accessible disconnecting device that disconnects all phase conductors, is marked for LC1350, does not interrupt a protective earth conductor, and complies with IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-3.
5.2 Mains and relay circuit arrangement
The wiring diagrams show the relays and switches in the power-off position. The mains circuit uses an IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-3 compliant disconnect device and 3 A fuses. The terminal diagram groups the AC supply, Alarm 1 relay, control relay and Alarm 2 relay circuits. Confirm the terminal markings on the supplied plug before wiring, and do not rely on a terminal number without checking the product connector.
Circuit group
Function
AC supply
Supply LC1350 through the specified isolator and overcurrent protection.
Alarm 1 relay
Relay output for alarm lamp, bell or approved external alarm circuit.
Control relay
Relay output for the pump actuator or normally closed solenoid valve arrangement.
Alarm 2 relay
Second relay output for a high- or low-level alarm arrangement.
5.3 Functional earth and signal wiring
An earth-current loop can be created when a wire or screen connects two earth points at different potentials. Follow the wiring diagram so that the screen is connected to earth at one end only. The earth terminal is a functional earth, not a protective earth. LC1350 has double insulation and does not require protective earth for shock protection, but the functional earth must be connected to a clean local earth in the panel to drain electrical interference and meet EMC requirements.
5.4 LP10-4 probe wiring
The maximum cable length for all transducers is 100 m (328 ft). The LP10-4 signal circuit uses terminals 50 to 56 for Alarm 1, pump tip HI, pump tip LO, Alarm 2, common, screen and functional earth. Do not connect terminal 55 to any other earth. Connect the functional-earth conductor to a clean local earth in the panel.
Figure 3. LP10-4 pumping-in arrangement with one high alarm and one low alarm.
The installation guide also shows an LP10-4 arrangement with two low alarms for pumping in and two high alarms for pumping out. Select and wire the arrangement that matches the approved process and boiler safety design.
The same guide includes an LP31 signal-circuit wiring example. Where an LP31 probe is used, follow the corresponding exact-model diagram and the probe manufacturer's connection requirements; do not substitute the LP10-4 terminal arrangement without checking the actual probe.
5.5 Optional external test switch
An external panel-mounted test switch may be installed. For a high alarm, use a normally open switch to connect the probe tip to the probe body. For a low alarm, use a normally closed switch to disconnect the probe tip from the controller. A spring-loaded or key-operated switch is recommended to prevent continuous alarms. Do not connect terminal 55 to another earth, and ensure that the resistance from the probe body to the pipework or boiler shell is less than 1 ohm.
6. Commissioning
6.1 General information
All commissioning is carried out from the front panel. Entering commissioning mode stops normal control: the control relay switches off the pump, while the alarm relay continues to operate normally. Return to the run menu by selecting End to regain normal control.
If no button is pressed for more than five minutes during commissioning, the controller returns to run mode and displays an error. If commissioning was incomplete, the product may not provide correct control. Commissioning access is passcode protected and must be restricted to qualified, trained personnel.

LC1350 has no battery. Programmed settings are retained in non-volatile flash memory and are written after a parameter is changed and the OK button is pressed.
7. Communications
7.1 Infrared
Products in the compatible range can communicate through an infrared link between adjacent controllers. The link allows parameters from this OEM unit to be passed to a compatible USER product fitted with RS485. LC1350 is always an IR slave; no local set-up or adjustment is required. Do not cover or obstruct the infrared beam between products. Arrange adjacent units within the documented 10 cm range and 15-degree working angle.
Refer to the data-register section for the parameters available through the communication link. Communication does not change the need to commission and verify the complete level-control and alarm system locally.
8. Maintenance
Read the safety information before maintenance. LC1350 requires no special servicing, preventive maintenance or product inspection. During installation and maintenance, protect the rear of the product from environmental pollutants entering the enclosure, or perform the work in a dry, clean environment.
Boiler water-level controls and level alarms do require testing and inspection. Follow applicable guidance, including Health and Safety Executive Guidance Notes BG01 and INDG436 where relevant, and the instructions for the complete Spirax Sarco system.
Clean the product with a cloth dampened with tap water, de-ionised water or isopropyl alcohol. Other cleaning materials may damage the product and invalidate the warranty.
9. Fault finding
Warning: Read the safety information and general wiring notes before fault finding. Hazardous voltages are present. Only suitably qualified personnel may perform fault finding, and the product must be isolated from the mains before wiring terminals are touched.
The most likely time for faults is during installation and commissioning, and the most common cause is incorrect wiring. Before returning a product, isolate the mains, check all wiring, verify the external fuses and confirm that the mains voltage is within specification.
Symptom or message
First checks
Display not illuminating
Switch off the mains, check wiring and fuses, verify the supply voltage, and check for mains surges or spikes. Consider an AC power-line protector near the product where required.
Display flashes on and off
Switch off the mains, disconnect signal wires, check the supply and wiring, and reconnect signal wires one at a time to identify an associated external circuit.
Product powers up and then switches off
Check that the supply is continuous and within specification, measure ambient temperature, and investigate the connected load. The resettable thermal cut-out may operate if power, voltage or temperature limits are exceeded.
Powerout
Check whether power was lost during operation, verify the supply and wiring, and reapply power after the cause is corrected.
Set-up menu time out
The operator remained in commissioning mode without pressing a button for five minutes. Re-enter commissioning only when required and complete the set-up.
Alarm 1 or Alarm 2
Check the boiler operation, controller configuration, alarm wiring and water supply system.
