Overview

Boiler feedtanks are designed as atmospheric deaerators that condition feedwater before it enters the boiler. They provide the mixing point for make-up water, returned condensate and flash steam, helping retain heat and release dissolved oxygen and other gases before the water is pumped forward. Better feedwater conditioning can reduce oxygen scavenging chemical demand, lower corrosion risk and improve overall boiler house efficiency. Spirax Sarco feedtanks use stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance and long service life without linings or coatings that can deteriorate in service. Flash condensing deaerator heads help mix incoming streams efficiently, making better use of condensate heat and supporting a hotter, more stable feedwater supply. This makes feedtanks a key boiler house selection where the user needs to combine deaeration, condensate reuse and feedwater temperature management in one practical package.

Related feedwater and recovery routes

Feedwater conditioning usually depends on more than the tank alone. Add steam injectors when direct tank heating and gas release are part of the design, and compare condensate recovery systems when hotter returned condensate also shapes the package.

If flash steam and blowdown energy should be recovered before entering the tank, continue into boiler blowdown heat recovery systems.

Continue your boiler feedwater system selection

Feedtanks sit at the meeting point between condensate return, make-up water, deaeration and heat recovery. The next selection step often depends on what is happening around the tank.
